In 1997, a large investment was made in a fully automatic whelk processing line which enables us to cook up to 2000 kilos of raw material per hour.
Whelks are brought into the factory overnight by refrigerated transport from all over the UK, so that they can be pressure cooked, processed, graded and then frozen IQF within 24 hrs of capture.
The swiftness of the operation ensures that the whelks are processed at their optimum freshness, essential for our
discerning customers that may vary from a humble whelk stall to leading Far East canneries in South Korea or Japanese processors servicing the sushi market.
